Major funders of Australian research have mandated that research outputs be made freely available in institutional repositories following any necessary embargo period for projects they have funded.
Western Sydney University has also mandated open access to research outputs which includes publications and research data where possible. Research data is not just quantitative. Interview transcripts, photographs and completed surveys are considered to be research data in the same way as instrument readings, measurements and observations.
The Open Access to Research policy is available on Western Sydney’s policy site.
To facilitate making your research open access in accordance with this policy you can submit publications and research data to the university’s research repository Research Direct at http://researchdirect.westernsydney.edu.au/.
The Library Research Team (lib-research@westernsydney.edu.au) will be in touch to complete the process.
A template data management plan, checklist and the Library Research Data Management guide are available from the eResearch website. You can also email the eResearch team with your data management technical questions at eresearch@westernsydney.edu.au.
For advice on open access publishing, including the use of Journal Finder and navigating the various policies please contact Kaysha Russell (HCA School Librarian).
More information about Open Access will be available during Open Access week 2015 Oct 19-25.
